What are the advantages of differential staining over simple staining?

There are several advantages of differential staining over simple staining. One advantage is that differential staining assists to differentiate between distinct species of bacteria. Differential staining  is useful for identifying between G+ or G- bacteria or for visualization of cellular structures. In contrast, simple staining can only provide information about the morphology of the cell being studied.
