What are the advantages of fluorescence detection methods for western blot?

Posted April 10, 2024

Answer

One advantage is its ease of use. Fluorescence detection requires no additional steps after incubating the membrane with secondary antibodies before detection. Another advantage is its stability. Following incubation with detection antibodies, membranes remain viable at room temperature for months, allowing signals to be detected at a different time. Additionally, fluorescence detection enables the concurrent identification of two proteins with similar molecular weights by using detection antibody pairs conjugated with different fluorophores.
