Posted January 9, 2024

Answer

There are various advantages of the spread plate technique.

  • It is able to detect low microbial loads and enables detailed study of colony morphology.
  • It allows isolation of syntrophic bacteria as they can be grown in the same plate as with distinctive individual colonie.
  • This method can be applied to a wide range of samples except those in a liquid form or dissolvable to create a suspension.
  • This method is also suitable for preparing and maintaining stock cultures.
  • It is also ideal for culturing aerobic microorganisms.
  • It facilitates Kirby Bauer antimicrobial sensitivity testing.
  • Lastly, it minimizes contamination risk when using sterile glass beads as a spreader since the process occurs with the culture plate’s lid closed.
