Answer
RFLP has a wide range of applications in a variety of settings. It can be used to:
- Identify the source of a DNA sample in forensic applications such as criminal investigations or paternity tests
- Detect mutations in order to determine an individual’s disease status
- Characterize genetic diversity or breeding patterns in animal populations
- Measure recombination rates in the loci between restriction sites
- Map genomes to identify and differentiate organisms
