What are the best ways to store a molecular beacon preparation?

Posted August 29, 2023

Answer

For short-term storage, stock solutions of molecular beacons should ideally be stored at -20 degrees celsius or -70 degrees celsius in TE buffer (10 mM Tris-HCL, pH 9.0 and 0.1 mM EDTA) in an area away from any light exposure. It is recommended to store MB into multiple vials with no more than 10 microliter each. Additionally, they should also be freezed and thawed once, as MBs fluorescence efficiency may be affected by multiple freezing-thawing cycles. For long-term storage, molecular beacons should be stored as a dried pellet instead.
