There are three types of chemical fixatives that are commonly used for microscopy: 

  1. Cross-linking fixatives: Formaldehyde, Glutaraldehyde, Osmium Tetroxide, Acrolein
  2. Coagulants: Ethanol (EtOH), Methanol (MeOH)
  3. Acids: Acetic acid, Picric acid
