Answer

The nervous system is made up of two main components – the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.

  1. The central nervous system (CNS) is composed of the brain and spinal cord. The brain receives and interprets signals from the nerves to regulate thought, movement, and emotions.
  2. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is composed of a network of nerves that branch out from the spinal cord. These nerves relay information from the brain and spinal cord to the organs, limbs, and all other body parts. The peripheral nervous system is made up of two parts – the somatic nervous system, which regulates voluntary movements and the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary movements.
