What are the examples of autosomal disorders?

Posted February 3, 2024

Answer

Autosomal refers to the 22 numbered, non-sex chromosomes in humans. Autosomal traits are passed on from parents to their child. A single abnormal gene on one of the 22 autosomal or non-sex chromosomes from either parent can cause an autosomal disorder in their child. There are two types of autosomal disorders – dominant and recessive.

Examples of autosomal dominant disorders include Huntington’s disease, neurofibromatosis type I, and Marfan syndrome.

Examples of autosomal recessive disorders include cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and Tay-Sachs disease.
