What are the limitations of in-gel staining?

Posted May 2, 2023

Answer

3 main limitations of in-gel staining include:

  • Dye cannot be used more than once
  • Sample mobility may be altered and samples may not run true to size because of the dye binding to nucleic acids
  • Higher likelihood that the dye may run off after a long run
