What are the limitations of prime editing?

Posted March 21, 2024

Answer

The primary limitation of prime editing is its relatively low efficiency. This is due to the sequential nature of the editing process, where several key steps must occur properly for successful editing. The efficiency of each individual step greatly also influences the overall editing efficiency. Prime editing is a relatively new technology, and there may still be technical challenges associated with its implementation. Additional challenges include accessibility and cost concerns, as well as the necessity for well-controlled clinical trials.
