What are the similarities between Fluorophore and Chromophore?

Posted November 14, 2022

Answer

There are various similarities between fluorophore and chromophore. Fluorophore and chromophore are types of components that exist in certain molecules responsible for their fluorescence (fluorophore) and color (chromophore). They also both also act as reporter or indicator molecules in various biological applications. Additionally, both can absorb light ranging from UV to visible light. Lastly, the fluorophore and chromophore go through a conformational change when excited, and return to their ground states in the form of fluorescence or light.
