Posted February 1, 2024

Answer

The two main causes of frameshift mutations are:

  1. Insertion of 1 or 2 bases in a DNA sequence: Known as an insertion mutation, this type of frameshift mutation results in a faulty protein that is longer than the normal protein.
  2. Deletion of 1 or 2 bases in a DNA sequence: Known as deletion mutation, this type of frameshift mutation results in a faulty protein that is shorter than the normal protein.
