What color does 7-AAD fluoresce?

Posted November 7, 2022

Answer

7-AAD fluoresces red.

7-AAD (7-amino-actinomycin D) is an intercalating red fluorescent label that undergoes a spectral sift on associating with DNA in membrane-compromised cells. 7-AAD is excited by the 488 nm laser line of an argon laser with fluorescence detected above 650 nm. These characteristics make it the preferred nucleic acid stain for multicolor fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry assays.
