When acetylcholine binds to nicotinic receptors it:
- Facilitates the release of norepinephrine and adrenaline from the adrenal glands
- Activates the sympathetic system by releasing norepinephrine
- Facilitates the contraction of skeletal muscle
- Nicotinic receptors play a role in long-term and working memory as well as memory formation, retrieval, and consolidation.
