What functions do complex permanent tissues perform?
Posted December 22, 2023

Answer

Complex permanent tissues are composed of more than one type of cell. They work together to carry out specialized functions in the plant body. Complex permanent tissues are categorized into two types: xylem and phloem.

  1. Thexylem tissueis responsible for transporting water and nutrients from a plant's roots to its leaves and stem. It also provides structural support and consists of 4 components: vessels, xylem fibers, tracheids, and xylem parenchyma.
  2. Phloem functions in transporting prepared organic food (via photosynthesis), moving it from the leaves to different regions of the plant. Phloem also consists of four elements: companion cells, phloem fibers, sieve tubes, and phloem parenchyma.
