Answer
Germ cells refer to the sex cells, which include sperm cells in males and egg cells in females. The significance of germ cells is that sexually reproducing organisms use them to pass their genomes on from parents to offspring, through the generations. They are the means by which species develop and change in evolution. Germ cell mutations are inheritable and passed on from parents to offspring.
