What is the stockroom of the cell?

Posted March 27, 2023

Answer

The stockroom, or storehouse, of the cell are its vacuoles. Vacuoles contain sacs for storage and are present in the cytoplasm of cells. They are known as the “stockroom” because they store different vital cellular components such as water, minerals, salts, and waste products. Vacuoles are found in plant and fungal cells, as well as some protist, bacterial, and animal cells. In animal cells, vacuoles are typically smaller in size and help excrete waste products. In plant cells, vacuoles help maintain water balance.
