Where can acetylcholinesterase be found?

Posted March 27, 2024

Answer

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE), a cholinergic enzyme, can be found in various locations around the body. It is found primarily at postsynaptic neuromuscular junctions, particularly in nerves and muscles, where it breaks down acetylcholine and terminates neuronal transmission and signaling between synapses.

Acetylcholinesterase is also found in the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
