Where do lipids come from?

Answer
Different types of lipids come from different sources and can be synthesized within the body or obtained through diet. The three main types of lipids are triglycerides, phospholipids, and steroids.
- Triglycerides, more commonly known as fats and oils, are found in fats derived from plant sources such as olives, avocados, nuts, and corn. They make up 95% of lipids in the diet. Oils are lipids that are liquid at room temperature, whereas fats are lipids that are solid at room temperature.
- Phospholipids are synthesized in the body and used to form the cell and organelle membranes in animals and plants. They are water-soluble and make up only 2% of dietary lipids.
- Steroids are synthesized in cells within the body itself where they are primarily derived from cholesterol.
