Nucleic Acid Detection
Accurate detection and quantification of nucleic acids is fundamental to molecular biology, from basic research to clinical diagnostics. AAT Bioquest provides comprehensive reagents for DNA and RNA analysis, including fluorescent dyes for gel electrophoresis, quantification assays compatible with microplate readers and Qubit™/Cytocite™ instruments, and specialized reagents for PCR applications.
Our Nucleic Acid Detection Technologies

  • Helixyte™ and Gelite™ proprietary dye families for sensitive nucleic acid detection
  • Fluorimetric quantification kits optimized for dsDNA, ssDNA, and RNA with picogram-level sensitivity
  • Safe DNA gel stains as alternatives to ethidium bromide with comparable or superior sensitivity
  • qPCR calibration solutions and plates for instrument validation across major platforms
  • Spectral coverage from blue to far-red for flexible multiplexing options
DNA Quantification

DNA quantification reagents enable precise measurement of double-stranded DNA, single-stranded DNA, and total nucleic acids using fluorescence-based detection. These assays offer superior sensitivity and specificity compared to UV absorbance methods, with detection limits in the picogram range.
  • Helixyte™ Green dsDNA reagents detect as little as 25 pg/mL with minimal background fluorescence
  • Selective quantification of dsDNA, ssDNA, or total nucleic acids available
  • Kits optimized for microplate readers (standard and high sensitivity ranges) and Qubit™/Cytocite™ fluorometers
  • Pre-diluted standards included for convenient calibration
  • Minimal interference from proteins, free nucleotides, and common buffer components
DNA Gel Electrophoresis Stains

DNA gel stains enable visualization of nucleic acids in agarose and polyacrylamide gels following electrophoresis. Our portfolio includes classic intercalating dyes and proprietary alternatives with improved sensitivity and safety profiles.
  • Helixyte™ Gold provides ultrasensitive detection comparable to SYBR Gold with Ex/Em = 496/539 nm
  • Helixyte™ Green nucleic acid stain offers excellent sensitivity for routine gel imaging
  • DiYO™ and DiTO™ series provide alternatives to YOYO and TOTO dyes with identical spectral properties
  • Compatible with standard UV transilluminators and laser-based gel documentation systems
Gelite™ Safe DNA Stains

Gelite™ Safe DNA stains are non-mutagenic alternatives to ethidium bromide and GelRed for nucleic acid gel staining. These dyes provide comparable or superior sensitivity while eliminating hazardous waste disposal requirements.
  • Non-cytotoxic and non-mutagenic based on Ames testing
  • Sensitivity comparable to ethidium bromide and GelRed/GelGreen alternatives
  • Available in 10,000X DMSO and water-soluble formulations
  • Compatible with standard UV transilluminators (Ex/Em = 513/552 nm)
  • Suitable for both pre-cast and post-staining gel protocols
  • Complete staining kits include pre-optimized buffer and protocols
SYBR Stains

SYBR stains and equivalents are asymmetric cyanine dyes widely used for nucleic acid detection in gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, and qPCR applications. AAT Bioquest offers SYBR-equivalent dyes and calibration reagents for qPCR instrument validation.
  • Helixyte™ 14 provides identical performance to SYBR 14 for live/dead discrimination assays
  • SYBR dye qPCR calibration plates pre-formatted for ABI 7500 Fast and similar instruments
  • 10,000X calibration solutions for custom plate preparation
  • Compatible with standard SYBR Green detection channels (Ex/Em = 498/522 nm)
  • Cell-permeable formulations available for live-cell nucleic acid staining
RNA Quantification

RNA quantification reagents provide sensitive and selective measurement of RNA concentration using fluorescence-based detection. These assays are essential for preparing samples for downstream applications including RT-PCR, RNA-seq, and Northern blotting.
  • StrandBrite™ Green reagents selectively detect RNA with minimal DNA interference
  • Portelite™ kits optimized for Qubit™ and Cytocite™ fluorometer platforms
  • Helixyte™ RNA kits designed for microplate reader quantification
  • Detection ranges from 5 pg/mL to 1000 ng across different kit configurations
  • High Selectivity (HS) and Broad Range (BR) options for different sample concentrations
  • Pre-diluted RNA standards included for calibration
Real-Time PCR (qPCR)

qPCR reagents include calibration solutions, reference dyes, and specialized building blocks for probe synthesis. These products ensure accurate instrument calibration and reliable quantitative PCR results across different platforms.
