What are adherent cells?

Posted December 17, 2020

Answer

Adherent cells or adherent cultures are cells that have been attached to an artificial substrate, which has been supplemented with nutrients and growth factors, to facilitate proliferation. As long as the proper conditions are met cells will grow as monolayers until the entire surface of the substrate is covered. At about 80% of confluency the cells must be sub-cultured to ensure continued growth and health.
