What are the advantages of using ssDNA probes for performing in situ hybridization?

Posted March 27, 2024

Answer

One advantage of ssDNA probes is that they are stable molecules and less prone to degradation compared to RNA probes. ssDNA probes are also relatively easy to work with due to their stability. Another advantage is that ssDNA probes can be designed with high sequence specificity to target complementary DNA sequences with minimal off-target binding. ssDNA probes can also penetrate tissue samples effectively. Lastly, unlike RNA probes, ssDNA probes are resistant to degradation by ribonucleases (RNases).
