One disadvantage is the limited number of bands that can be used since the time frame of the chromatogram is short. There has to be a 10% difference in molecular mass in order to have quality resolution. Mobile phase filtering is required to prevent the columns and interfere with detectors. The load capacity is another con, as no more than 5% of the column volume should be loaded. Filtration must be performed to prevent dust and other particulates from ruining the columns and interfering with the detectors.
