What is the purpose of isolating pure culture?

Posted January 9, 2024

Answer

There are several purposes of isolating pure culture. Obtaining pure cultures of bacteria is significant because it enables the use of recombinant DNA technology by isolating exact copies of the bacteria. Once an isolated colony has been obtained, researchers are able to also identify and study the characteristics of that pure culture. Additionally, the initial step in identifying the bacteria responsible for a disease is to isolate a single species of bacterium. Thus, isolating pure culture helps to subsequently develop treatments specific to a particular pathogen.
