What is the role of nucleotides in protein synthesis?

Nucleotides have a pivotal role in protein synthesis. They are like building blocks for DNA and RNA, which are important molecules in this process. DNA provides the instructions, or the genetic code, that determine the sequence of amino acids in a protein. During protein synthesis, DNA gets transcribed into a molecule called mRNA (messenger RNA). mRNA carries the instructions to the ribosomes, which are the cell’s protein-making factories. Another type of molecule, the tRNA (transfer RNA) brings the correct amino acids to the ribosomes, based on the instructions from the mRNA. The ribosomes then connect the amino acids together to make a protein. In this manner, nucleotides help provide the instructions and make sure the right amino acids are used to build proteins during protein synthesis.
