Why is Tris used in the TE buffer?

Answer

Tris is a widely used pH buffer. It is used in the TE buffer to maintain the pH of the DNA and increase the permeability of the cell wall. Tris is a (hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. Its molecular formula is (HOCH2)3CNH2.
