What is the main function of the TE buffer?

Posted October 4, 2022

Answer

The main functions of the TE buffer are maintaining the pH of the solution and solubilizing DNA or RNA while protecting the nucleic acids from enzymatic lysis. TE (Tris-EDTA) buffer is made up of Tris, a pH buffer and EDTA, a metal chelating ion. It is used in DNA extraction processes to lyse, wash and dissolve DNA. TE buffer is also used for DNA storage because of its ability to store DNA for a longer period of time without degrading it.
