What is the composition of TE buffer?

Posted October 3, 2022

Answer

TE (Tris-EDTA) buffer is composed of two reagents – Tris and EDTA. Tris is a commonly used pH buffer. It has a pH buffer range of 7.5-8.5. Nuclease activity is low in this environment. EDTA (ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid) is a divalent metal chelating agent. It chelates metal ions necessary for nucleases to function, thus further inactivating the nuclease and protecting nucleic acids from degradation.
