Is ATP required to provide energy for actin polymerization?

Posted November 4, 2022

Answer

ATP is not always required to provide energy for actin polymerization. However, actin monomers polymerize more readily when bound to ATP as compared to actin monomers that are bound to ADP. Binding with ATP and ATP hydrolysis play integral roles in mediating the assembly and dynamic behavior of actin filaments.
